Summary
Moving is stressful, but, like anything, it becomes easier with a clear plan of action. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK wanted to find a new way to support families and businesses planning their next move, whether they were a current customer or a DIY mover. This was the driving force behind Movetrac, a free personalized moving checklist and booking application.
Challenge
The most challenging part of this particular project was getting the onboarding process just right for both user types: Current customers and DIY movers.
- Current customers should be able to leverage the information that they had already given while booking their move, so they can simply jump in and get started without having to retype anything.
- DIY movers should get the same level of personalization as current customers without overwhelming them with too many options during the account creation process.
Knowing our users ahead of time and being aware of their unique journeys was crucial.

Solution
The web application was designed to be as simple as possible. We wanted any user to be able to simply log in and get started without much, if any, manual set up required. The result was a simple checklist with to-do items that were generated based on their move date, the type of move, and any additional options selected during the onboarding process, such as whether the users have kids or pets, or whether they were planning to hire a mover or do it themselves.
To help users stay on track with their moving tasks, the app also sends notifications when tasks are due soon and overdue. However, moving can be stressful, so we also wanted to make sure that the pre-defined checklists could be edited. We added the ability to add and delete tasks, rearrange tasks, and change due dates. That way, if anything were to change, the user would not continue to receive overdue notifications for tasks that are no longer relevant.
To build trust, we included a library of moving resources on the public MoveTrac website. That way, both current and potential customers could use MoveTrac as a helpful resource. Within the app, the user can easily access articles that are related to checklist items in case more information is needed.
Results
The simple checklist app had a successful launch and ultimately became integrated as a part of the company's booking process. To date, the app has helped thousands of unique users track their moves. Since its launch, the app has expanded to include booking services and the ability to view a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK moving services quote.
